Charlotte Junior Chamber Holds Largest Computer Donation Drive In History of Local Goodwill

The Charlotte Junior Chamber (Jaycees) and Goodwill Industries of the Southern Piedmont completed the largest computer and related items collection drive in the local affiliate’s history.Topping last year’s record results by 27%, the final tally was 384 donations to fill 3 trailers. Last the year’s effort garnered 303 donations to fill 2 trailers.

Why I Joined: Will Peters

I joined the Jaycees for 3 reasons.

1. Improve my leadership skills
2. Become connected to progressive professionals in Charlotte
3. Make a difference in and for the Charlotte community

I must admit, that in the beginning I joined for selfish reasons of growing myself and my business. I’m a small business owner in Charlotte who was seeking to improve the quality of my company and business performance. To improve the quality of any company I believe starts with improving the people and product of that company. As the owner of the company, I believe it starts with me. So leadership development is very important to me.

After living in Florida for seven years and finally moving back to North Carolina, I was looking for a way to re-connect with people my age and get more involved in the Charlotte community. A colleague of mine and our current president, David Hoffman, introduced me to the Junior Chamber and invited me to a General Membership meeting. Two Charlotte Junior Chamber Members Set To Give Talks at the Upcoming Ignite Charlotte 2

he Ignite mantra is “enlighten us, but make it quick.” Two Charlotte Junior Chamber members, Christy Hamlin and Lawrence Shaheen Jr., answered the challenge and, after a competitive selection process, both were chosen to speak in the upcoming Ignite Charlotte 2, on Tuesday, February 8 at 7 p.m.

Christy Hamlin’s topic is entitled, “Vision Casting.” Lawrence Shaheen’s is entitled “Bridging the Gap.”

The Charlotte Junior Chamber hosts Mayor Anthony Foxx this Tuesday, June 7th, at 6:30 pm at Villa Antonio, located at 4707 South Blvd. Mayor Foxx will be speaking about his and the city’s future initiatives for Charlotte, and how the members of the Charlotte Junior Chamber can help achieve these goals, and become the future leaders of the community.

Nominations for 2012 Governing Board of Directors

The offices of President, First Vice President, Vice Presidents, State Director, Secretary and Treasurer shall be elected at the first regular general membership meeting on November 8th 2011.
